About Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger
Identical twins Julia and Valentina Poole are living comfortably in suburban America when they learn that an aunt they never knew has left them a flat in London, overlooking Highgate Cemetery. The inheritance offers a chance to begin new lives, but their arrival draws them into the unresolved relationships surrounding their aunt and her home.
Among the people caught up in this tangle are an obsessive-compulsive crossword setter, the aunt’s elusive lover and the aunt herself, whose presence seems not to have entirely departed. Framed as a contemporary ghost story, the novel brings questions of love, loss and identity into a setting shaped by the cemetery and the lives connected to it. It will appeal to readers of literary ghost stories and fiction about family ties and complicated inheritances.
