Derek Owusu is a British-Ghanaian writer and poet whose work explores identity, race, masculinity, family, and mental health. His debut novel, That Reminds Me, is a lyrical, fragmented account of a young man coming to terms with trauma, sexuality, and belonging; it won the 2020 Desmond Elliott Prize. Owusu has also written and spoken widely about Black British experience and the pressures placed on young men. His writing is known for its emotional directness, experimental form, and close attention to the ways memory shapes personal identity.
